Epoxy flooring
One sealed floor, bonded into bare concrete
Epoxy is a two part resin. The resin and the hardener sit apart until they are mixed, and once they meet they cure into a hard layer that grips the concrete instead of sitting on top of it. Paint dries on the surface. Epoxy cures into the floor.
James Walsh looks at every floor himself before his crews touch it, because the slab decides the job. The concrete gets a diamond grind back to open pores, the cracks and pinholes get filled and leveled, and only then does any resin go down.

Why does epoxy hold when garage paint peels?
Because of what happens underneath. Garage paint rolls onto a smooth, troweled slab, so it grips the hard skin on top of the concrete and nothing below. The first hot tire that parks on it lifts it in sheets. Epoxy bonds mechanically instead, which means the slab has to be opened up with a diamond grinder so the resin can sink into the pores and lock in. That grinding pass is the backbone of every job our Houston flooring contractor crews take on: once the smooth skin is gone, there is nothing for the coating to peel from.
How do you prep a slab before the epoxy goes down?
In three passes, and all of them with a diamond grinder. We never acid wash a floor and we never shot blast one. The whole floor gets a diamond grind, corner to corner, until the troweled surface is gone and the concrete under it is open and dull. Then every crack, chip and pinhole is filled and ground flat so the floor reads as one surface. Last the dust comes out, because resin bonds to concrete, not to grinding dust. How rough the slab needs to be is not a guess: the International Concrete Repair Institute publishes concrete surface profiles for exactly that.
Every floor is opened to what the coating calls for, not what the clock allows, down to the smallest home floor we install.

Most homeowners land on decorative flake. Color chips are broadcast into the wet base coat to a full cover, then a clear polyaspartic top coat locks them in, and the light texture hides the dust and tire marks a working garage collects. Custom metallic is the other popular pick: pigment is moved through the wet resin, so no two floors come out the same. Solid color is the simplest look. Nearly every garage floor we finish gets polyaspartic over the epoxy.
Does an epoxy floor hold up on the Gulf Coast?
Far better than the bare slab does, as long as it is put down properly. Two things test a coating here. Hot tire pickup is the first: tires come off the freeway soft and hot, then grab whatever is loose on the concrete as they cool. Moisture is the second. Homes here sit on a slab with no basement and ground water can push up through concrete and break a bond from below, so we check the slab for moisture before we pick a system. The same build goes onto the shop floors we handle as commercial flooring in Houston.

Straight answers about your floor coating questions
How long does an epoxy floor take to install?
One day. Every install we do is a one day install, and you are back on your floor 12 hours later. You get the plan for your slab before any work begins.
Can you coat a floor that already has paint on it?
Usually yes. The old paint gets ground off first, all of it, because a new system is only ever as good as what it is stuck to. If the grinder turns up a problem underneath, we stop and tell you.
Will epoxy cover the cracks in my concrete?
We fill cracks and pinholes and grind them flat before coating, so they disappear into the finished floor. If a slab is actively moving, no coating can hold it together, and James will say so rather than hide it.
How do you clean an epoxy floor?
A dust mop and a wet mop. The surface is sealed, so oil, brake fluid and spilled paint sit on top instead of soaking in. Wipe spills up when they happen and the floor keeps looking the same.
Is an epoxy floor slippery when it gets wet?
A smooth topcoat can be. Decorative flake builds texture into the surface, and we can add a non-slip additive to the topcoat if the floor sees water or you simply want more grip underfoot.
Where do you install epoxy floors?
Across Houston, Katy, Cypress, Fulshear, Sugar Land, Richmond and the surrounding areas. We coat garages, workshops, patios, porches, interior slabs and commercial spaces. We grind, coat and flake concrete, we do not pour, fix, stain or level it.
